That&#8217;s why elderly people &#8220;don&#8217;t need as much sleep&#8221;. They need it, they just don&#8217;t have enough of the sleep hormone melatonin to help them get enough. We need melatonin for brain function (memory and clarity of thinking). It boosts our immunity and suppresses inflammation. A good nights sleep can also prevent weight gain!
