Lab Work

So many times a patient says "what could be causing this" and asks about so many different symptoms. My job is to take the X-rays, make sure the atlas is lined up to open up blood and nerve flow from above down, inside out and hope that is 100% the answer. Often times it is and that is WONDERFUL!! But, what if there is something else is going on? Just like when I adjust the Atlas, the only way I know what to do is to take and look at the X-rays. Those are my blueprints that give me the instructions on what to do. From there, we just take it one adjustment at a time. The blood, hair and saliva is also a wealth of information about what is going on in your body IF the atlas is not 100% the answer. The tests cannot lie. When any of these reports come back, they are just more instructions about your body. They tell us what the next step is. Maybe show us the key to your wellness. I find as patients start feeling better with Atlas work, they feel hopeful for a future of WELLNESS. If there is a piece of the pie still missing in that path in life, maybe one of these tests is the next step. Call our office or talk to us when you are in if any of these tests seem like YOUR next step!

Blood Work

If you have ever wanted a complete lab workup, but your doctor will not order it because they say it is unnecessary, this is your chance to do it. Unnecessary means, "I can't order it because your insurance will not pay." Insurance pays for sick care, not HEALTH care. Waiting until you are sick to get select blood work done is like waiting for the car to start smoking before you check the oil. So many maintain their cars better than they maintain their bodies, but your cars are replaceable- YOUR BODY IS NOT! Blood tests can not lie. They just show the facts.

These blood tests come with a complete explanation about what each and every test means to your health in plain English anyone can understand. The report shows what the healthy ranges of each test are and where you fall in (or out) of that range and what you can do to help get back in the healthy range. The problem with getting individual blood tests here and there is that all these tests combined need to be done to see comparisons and put your whole picture together to see what YOU need to do to be HEALTHY. I have been using these panels on my family and love to see things improve from one year to the next. These tests should be looked at as "What can I do to stay healthy?", not " What is wrong with me!!!!". Although, they do work for both.

Call our office to set up an appointment to visit with Dr. Amy about what blood work is needed. That appointment is a half hour. After the blood work is ordered, you will walk into LabCorp in Urbandale for the draw (no appointment necessary). No money is taken by the lab as they are just a draw center. Results will be sent to Dr. Amy in about 2 weeks and our office will call you to set up another half hour appointment to go over results. You will leave with a 20-25 page booklet that you can look over at whatever extent you choose. Every blood test ordered is explained so you understand what each abbreviation on each test means just in case you have ever wondered. Being proactive and choosing WELLNESS and PREVENTION is key. This could change your life:-)

Hair Analysis - $150

Providing a mineral blueprint of one's biochemistry, a hair tissue mineral analysis can provide pertinent information about one's metabolic rate, energy levels, sugar and carbohydrate tolerance, stage of stress, immune system and glandular activity. It is a screening test for the level of 20 minerals and toxic metals in a sample of hair. It is a tissue mineral biopsy that is non-invasive, relatively inexpensive and extremely accurate. A hair tissue mineral analysis is considered a standard test used around the world for the biological monitoring of trace elements and toxic metals in humans and animals species.

Hair, like all other body tissues, contains minerals that are deposited as the hair grows. Although the hair is dead, the minerals remain as the hair continues to grow out. A sample of hair cut close to the scalp provides information about the mineral activity in the hair that took place over the past three to four months, depending on the rate of hair growth.

If a mineral deficiency exists in the hair, it usually indicates a mineral deficiency or excess within the body. Mineral imbalances can cause:

  • Depression
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Hyperactivity
  • Headaches
  • Hypertension
  • Arthritis
  • Hair Loss
  • Anemia
  • Thyroid Imbalance
  • Prostate Problems
  • Digestive Disturbances
  • Diabetes
  • Musculo-skeletal problems/Instability
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Skin Rashes
  • Emotional Problems
  • Allergies

Some simple things to look for are:

  • White spots in the fingernails, stretch marks, lack of growth ,acne, prostate swelling=low zinc
  • Longitudinal ridges in nails = iron deficiency
  • Brittle hair and nails =calcium/copper Imbalance
  • Deep grooves across nails =calcium deficiency
  • Mood swings, arthritis= possible metal toxicity
  • PMS headaches = copper toxicity
  • Hyperactivity=lead toxicity (or any heavy metal)
  • Migraines = Too much copper and/or iron
  • Multiple Sclerosis= Lead toxicity

The only way to know is to test minerals and heavy metals to see if any of these are contributing to your problems!

The kits are available at our office to be picked up and sent off to the lab. Instructions are very easy to follow and a small scale is included in the test to make sure you have enough head or pubic hair to send off for analysis. The cost of the test is $140 which includes a booklet explaining all of your results as well as ways that you can correct any imbalance that may show up on your test.

Food Allergy Testing

Food Allergy Testing

The Food Allergy Test gives healthcare professionals as well as the patient a tool for managing conditions linked to inflammation and many other health problems or even learning disabilities. The tests measures an individual’s response to foods and other substances that may reveal the underlying trigger of certain symptoms you are experiencing.

Food and chemical sensitivities have been linked to migraines, aching joints, fatigue, gastrointestinal disorders, and other symptoms related to chronic activation of the immune system. The efficacy of food allergy testing has been documented in numerous studies implementing rigorous double blind and often placebo controlled study designs. Eliminating certain foods (or substances) that your body does not have a positive response to can be life altering. Foods that are good for one person can be poison for another person. Testing your compatibility to the food/substance items in these food sensitivity tests can really change a person's life as well as alter any future or current health problems.

The kits to complete a food allergy test are available at our office and have easy to follow instructions. You can decide which test you want to complete. The foods listed in each of these tests can be found on this chart.

  • Basic (88 foods) - $275
  • Vegetarian (104 foods) - $400
  • Kosher (108 foods)- $400
  • Expanded (115 foods) - $400
  • Complete (154 foods)- $455
  • Premium (207 foods)- $550

The kits are available at our office for you to pick up, take home and do at your convenience with a finger prick test and ship off when completed. Results will come back to our office in 2-3 weeks. The results show IF you have any sensitivities as well as how to incorporate changes into your diet. At that time, a half hour visit can be set up with Dr. Amy to go over the results and answer any questions you may have.

Below these 6 tests in the above chart link, there are several additional tests that can be also be done, but they do require a blood draw at a lab that Dr. Amy can set up at Mercy North right next to our office.

Saliva Hormone Testing

Hormones are complex. They’re produced throughout your body by nearly a dozen glands and organs, and are collectively known as the endocrine system.

When in balance, they interact in an elegantly intricate formula — a mix that determines growth, development, mental function and physical function at every age. When they’re out of balance, growing evidence shows that it can cause anything from fatigue to infertility, headaches to depression, PMS, or weight gain and a loss of libido.

A hormonal imbalance rarely stems from only one type of hormone. More often, the problem involves a series of hormones that are out of balance. In addition, a disruption in the balance of hormones produced by one gland or set of glands can cause other glands or systems to dysfunction. If one hormone rises, another must fall- balance is KEY! Before you know it, you’re feeling miserable on multiple fronts.

Saliva testing looks at Progesterone, Estrogen, Testosterone, DHEA, and Cortisol to see where there may be an imbalance in YOUR body. Saliva tests don't just show what is going on today (this is what blood tests do), but look at what is going on long term. As all of us age, hormones will start to decline. Loss of hormones is a gradual descent to death. BUT, you can choose what quality of life you have in that descent. Healthy balanced hormones are how you were more likely to feel in your twenties- full of life and energy, happy, able to maintain weight and increased libido.

Saliva testing means you will pick up a kit at my office, pay for it ($390 is the cost of getting the saliva test done as of now, but test price can change over time), and take the kit home. Instructions are very easy to follow. Women still having a menstrual cycle will do the saliva test on day 19 of their cycle (Day 1 is the first day of the period). Males or post-menopausal women can do the test any day first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything. You just spit in a tube included in the kit which takes about 15 minutes. The tube will then be put in a prepaid UPS envelope with paperwork you have filled out and dropped off at a UPS location. No payment can be sent to ZRT as you have already paid for your test. The results will be sent to Dr Amy in about 10 days. After the results are back, a half hour appointment ($150 currently) is scheduled with Dr. Amy Osenbaugh to go over your results so you completely understand where you are at with your hormone journey that is constantly evolving and needs to be balanced to achieve your BEST life. Balanced hormones equal a BETTER life!

Dr Amy has done extensive training in homeopathic hormone rejuvenation. When your results come back, we will guide you on how to get back on the right track. Getting hormones in balance is never an overnight sensation. You gradually got to where you are at, and you will gradually get better. All hormone imbalance can be balanced if you give it time and patience. Being in balance is required to LIVE A BALANCED LIFE!

Vitamin D3 Test

Vitamin D3 is so crucial to happiness, immunity, bone density and living a vital life. Vitamin D3 is actually a hormone, not a vitamin, and having it out of balance can cause all sorts of health problems. Low vitamin D can lead to depression, pain, sickness, frail bones, muscle weakness, or even cardiovascular disease. Vitamin D3 is considered the sunshine vitamin, but as we get older, it is sometimes difficult to synthesize vitamin D from the sun, so we become more deficient. It happens so gradually that it is hard to imagine one simple, inexpensive little pill can effect so much! Vitamin D3 is best absorbed with fat, so we keep Vitamin D3 at our office that is in an olive oil base. A lot of vitamin D3 is in Soy oil. Always avoid soy as much as possible as it is not good for hormone balance, and remember- Vitamin D3 IS A HORMONE. Prescription vitamin D is D2 which our bodies cannot utilize. D3 is what you need!

Most of us are deficient in vitamin D3 and need to supplement, but it is not always easy to determine how much to take without testing it at different times to see if what you are taking is enough for you . Vitamin D is fat soluble, so the more you weigh, the more vitamin D you will need.

If you would like to have your vitamin D tested, we have a simple at home kit that you can pick up at our office, pay $90, and do the test at home to send off for your results. The results will come back to Dr Amy and she will go over those tests with you to help determine if you need Vitamin D3 or if you are taking enough.
