Selenium

by admin_amy | Published July 8, 2015

Researchers have found that selenium alters gene expression to suppress a protein involved in cancerous tumor onset, growth, and metastasis. Many studies have shown that populations with low selenium are at a increased risk for developing many different types of cancer. this occurs due to selenium’s ability to effect inflammation, metal detoxification, apoptosis (destruction of cancerous cells), and downregulating hormones that encourage cancer growth. Selenium also helps the thyroid hormones function better in our body and should be taken with any thyroid medication.
